The Roman Map of Britain Uxella aestuarium River Okement/Torridge
Ouexalla eiscusiV Vexalla aestuarium vars. Ouxella Uxella, Ouzella Uzella (Ptolemy II 3 2)
Ptolemy's coordinates would suggest that the Uxella is somewhere midway between Herculis promontorium and Sabrina aestuarium MAP.
The River Okement will suffice as our Uxella if we can consider the possibility that the name Torridge once applied only to the western branch of the river. The mouth of the river is just east of Hartland Point.
