The Roman Map of Britain Tamesae Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire

Tamese (R&C 76) next

A site either on the Thames or the Teme.

The river Teme runs past the Roman settlement at Leintwardine (SO4074), which is part of a large complex of military sites to the south and west. Tamese might represent the name of the settlement and Branogenium the military complex.

This approach considers that four entries: Landini, Tamese, Brinauis, and Alauna are in the south-east quarter of Quadrant 5.
Continuing on Margary 160cc from Wargrave, we cross the River Thames to the Roman settlement at Henley-on-Thames. R&C offered Dorchester as a probable Tamese at the mouth of the River Thame. PNRB though it the erroneous inclusion of the river-name.
