    Located along Ermine Street (Margary 2b) on the western edge of the Fens, Sawtry should be about where the Catuvellauni had access to the salt marshes between the tribes of the Iceni and the Corieltauvori.
    The name is given as Saltrede 1086 OE salt-rith 'Salt or salters' stream'.
