The Roman Map of Britain Pampo... Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland
Pampocalia (R&C 125) next
Pandon Burn Pampedenburn 1270-8
is located just 350m east of the Roman fort at Newcastle upon Tyne NZ2563 which is considered to be the Ponte Aeli of ND xl34.
The similarity of Pampocalia and Pons Aelii is a co-incidence somewhere between interesting and disturbing. In this
case Pampocalia may be the conflation of a name of Newcastle upon Tyne Pampo... and Coria Corbridge.
The next pair of forts westward are on the Stangate - Haltwhistle
Burn Cauaglanna and Chesterholm Vindolanda.
