The Roman Map of Britain Noviomago or Novariomago?
Nouiomagno var. Noúiomagno (R&C 39) next
Noviomago is the historically
preferred form, and for as long has been considered a duplicate entry to Nauimago
for Noviomago Chichester (R&C
44). It is fair to assume that -magno is an error for -mago
'plain', but the variant Noúiomagno can be interpreted as Novario-mago.
Vindocladia Badbury Rings (R&C
38), the previous entry, and AI's Durnonovaria
Dorchester of Iters xii & xv
are directly connected by Roman road Margary 4e.
Other roads from Badbury rings
are Margary 4c through Woodyates to Old Sarum, and Margary 4d through Lake Farm
to Hamworthy/Poole Harbour.
Alternatively Nouiomagno may be connected by road to the next entry Onna East Anton (R&C 40) on either Margary 4b between Boscombe Down and Silchester or Margary 43 between Mildenhall and East Anton.
