Perhaps the name relates to the Dunum Bay of Ptolemy.

The name is most frequently interpreted as representing Luguduno.

   Were the name related to Dunum of Ptolemy's Dunum Bay, a site at the crossing of the Tees - Middleton St George NZ3413 - might be considered.

   But further north on Margary 80a is Durham NZ2642 with earliest forms being Dunholm c.1000-c.1230, Dunholme 1068-1128.
