The Roman Map of Britain Dubalis(is) Elginhaugh, Lothian or Castle Greg
Duabsisis var. Duabsissis (R&C 181) next
The name Dalhousie Dalwussy 1235, Dalwlsy, Dalwulsy 1298 doesn't seem to have been recognized as kin to rivers of the Dub-glais 'dark-stream' family such as Dawlish, Douglas and Dulas. Dalhousie is on the South Esk The final -is of Dubalisis seems awkward and is likely the result of dittography, or the mistaken incorporation of a double-stop (//).
Elginhaugh (NT3267)
fort on North Esk
Eskbank (NT3266)
two marching camps between N and S Esks.
Dalkeith (NT3469) marching camp at
junction of N and S Esks
To complement a proposed *Caromago at Livingston/Kirkton, we need a 'dark stream' in the vicinity. Just to the south is the Roman fortlet at Castle Greg (NT0559) above Black Burn.
