The Roman Map of Britain Colonia Boscombe Down, Wiltshire

Coloneas (R&C 33) next

Colonea is for Colonia. The final letter s, as Schnetz thought possible, belongs with the next entry Aramis (R&C 34).

Boscombe Villa (SU2038), also known as Allington, is situated along the Roman road Margary 4b about five miles northeast of Old Sarum, the next entry. The nearby River Bourne was once known as Collingbourne Collengaburnam 903, at least in its upper reaches. Ekwall thought possible the early river-name was Coll W. 'hazels', identical with Cole.
