The Roman Map of Britain Alauna Alchester, Oxfordshire
Alauna (R&C 78) next
There are no early forms of the place-name, but the
longstanding assignment to Alchester completes the sequence in a fashion
consistent with the cosmographer's method of inventory and the structure of the
source-map.
As previously stated, the sequence of Landini, Tamese,
Brinauis, Alauna is within the bounds of the southeast quarter of
Quadrant 5.
Alauna might represent the old name of Gagle Brook.
