The Roman Map of Britain Isanavantia Whilton Lodge, Northamptonshire

Bannaventa var. Bennauenta (AI 4705 Iter II)
Isannavantia (AI 4771 Iter vi)
Bannavanto (AI 4795 Iter viii)

Tradition adopts the form Bannaventa, which has its continental analogs. But the major branch of the river Nene is the Ise, and that must be cause for concern considering the form Isannavantia. Isanna- can be found as Esenburnen Isbourne, Ysan Ise, Isenan Isene, Isenhampstead,  in Gloucester, Nottinghamshire, Sussex and Berkshire, respectively. It is comparably comfortable to take Isanna as a river name. Both the Ise and the eastern branch of the Nene arise on the slopes of the same hill near Naseby. That Whilton Lodge is on the western branch of the Nene would suggest that at least the upper part of the Nene was once known as Isanna.
