Punctuobice
(R&C 47) Next
Pontibus (AI 4784
Iter vii)
Dilleman was correct in recognizing the potential equivalence of the two forms. Pontibus is Latin 'at the bridges', apparently denoting the crossing of the river Thames at Staines (TQ0371). Puntuobice is apparently the result of dittography, Pon-ti-bu-bus > Pun-ct-uo-bice.
Dilleman wrongly chose to see Punctuobice as Portu Abone, which was adopted by PNRB.
