The Roman Map of Britain St David's Head, Pembrokeshire

Oktapitaron akron Octapitarum promontorium var. Oktapotaron Octapotarum (Ptolemy II 3 2)

Probably an error for either Okri-, Gr. okriV 'a jagged point or prominence', OLat. ocris = mons confragosus 'a broken, rugged, stony mountain'; or Akth- 'headland, foreland, promontory'. Gr. pituV 'pine' appears to be the second element. Pitch-pines were an important source of resin necessary for the caulking of ship joints. Gr. pissa, Attic pitta, L. pix 'pitch'.
