Causennis (AI 4752 Iter v)

Two possiblities are:
Saltersford, Little Ponton, Lincolnshire (sk9233) and
Sapperton, Lincolnshire (TF0132).

The earlier recordings of Great and Little Ponton Pamptune, Pamtone, Great Panptume , Magna, Parva Pantone db, Pampton 1245 appear to contain the river-name element pamp- found in Pampocalia (R&C 125). The river that the two towns hold in common is the Witham, whose early name is unknown, but arguably Vidumanius. Cringle Brook joins the Witham at Great Ponton, and an unamed stream originating southwest of Stroxton joins it at Little Ponton. Which stream bore the name Pamp- is unknown. The settlement at Saltersford seems sufficiently distant that a connection with the name Pamp- is unlikely.
