The Roman Map of Britain Sulloniacis Brockley Hill?, Hendon & Harrow, Middlesex

Sulloniacis (AI 4714 Iter II)

Silk Stream Sulh 957 is clearly the source of the place-name traditionally assigned to Brockley Hill (TQ1793).

Sheldon argues for Burnt Oak (tq1891) or Edgeware (tq1891), both on Watling Street at a crossing of Silk Stream. The AI mileage totals do not match the figure given in the text. The distance between Verolamio St Albans and Sulloniacis is given as Viiii, and Sulloniacis to London as xii. The total for St Albans to London is deficient, totaling twenty-one when the actual is closer to twenty-four. Sheldon points out that the Sulloniacis to London mileage may be correct at Xii, and the St Albans to Sulloniacis mileage corrupted by a V for X error.
